The peridot is the birthstone for August. The stone comes in a variety of greens, but today the most popular color is the bright lime green. Ancient Greeks and Romans admired this beautiful stone. It was believed to have magical healing powers and to bring the wearer power, influence, faithfulness and protection. The peridot is brought to the surface by volcanoes and in Hawaii, it has historically symbolized the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes.
